Condover Hall
Condover Hall is an elegant Grade I listed three story Elizabethan sandstone building, described as the grandest manor house in Shropshire. Working with Reynolds Conservation McMillan & Holder were awarded the contract in 2022.
The phase of restoration funding is to run 5 years and the scope of works is comprehensive. McMillan & Holder is due to undertake various phases of work to this building and is currently conducting a major stone renovation of the South Tower and Northeast elevation of the building.
The scope of works on the Northeast elevation includes defrassing of loose masonry, investigation into the structural integrity of the underlying stone and replacement of masonry.
The work to the South Tower which is in progress currently (2022) involves the careful removal of the balustrade string course to full depth and the installation of exactly templated replacement sandstone components. The removal and replacement of heavily eroded ornate pierced balustrade whose replacements are being hand carved in our Shropshire workshops ready for installation in December 2022.
Further work is being undertaken on the detailed stone chimneys, chimney capping stones, ashlar, mullioned windows and quoins.
